Lookup Jewell County Jail Inmates

Jewell County Jail is the county jail and local detention point for Jewell County, Kansas. Jewell County Jail Overview

Jewell County Jail is operated by the Jewell County Sheriff's Office as a local county jail. It holds people arrested in Jewell County, pretrial detainees, sentenced misdemeanor jail inmates, local warrant arrestees, probation or warrant holds, and short-term detainees waiting for bond, release, court, transfer, or pickup by another agency. No official source located a separate work-release annex, city jail, regional jail, state prison, BOP facility, or ICE facility inside Jewell County.

The sheriff is the legal and practical detention operator. K.S.A. 19-811 places charge and custody of the county jail and prisoners with the sheriff. K.S.A. 19-1903 requires the sheriff or deputy to keep the jail, separate male and female prisoners, and supply proper food, drink, and medical care. The county's official sheriff web page is brief, so the strongest public contact sources are the county directory and Kansas Sheriffs' Association profile.

Jewell County Jail Contact

The Kansas Sheriffs' Association Jewell County entry identifies Sheriff Don Jacobs and lists the office address, phone, and fax for Jewell County jail and sheriff contact.

Kansas Sheriffs' Association profile for Jewell County Jail inmate lookup

That profile is useful because the official county sheriff page does not publish a separate detention division page, online roster, bond desk page, or jail policy packet.

Jewell County Jail Lookup

No official Jewell County online roster was found on the county site, sheriff page, or high-authority facility sources. A Jewell County Jail inmate lookup therefore uses a direct access workflow. Start with the sheriff for current custody. Use a written KORA request when a public jail record is needed. Use Kansas CaseSearch for filed court charges. Use KDOC, BOP, ICE, or VINELink only when the person has moved outside the local jail search path.

  1. Call 785-378-3194 and ask whether the person is currently housed at Jewell County Jail. Provide full name, date of birth if known, and arrest date or agency.
  2. Ask whether bond is set, whether a no-bond hold exists, and whether another county, state, federal, immigration, or probation hold prevents release.
  3. If staff cannot provide details by phone, request the records custodian and submit a written KORA request for the jail calendar entry or booking record.
  4. Search Kansas CaseSearch or call the clerk at 785-378-4030 when a criminal court case has been filed.
  5. Use KASPER, BOP, or ICE ODLS if the person is no longer in local jail custody.

For a fuller countywide access path, the Jewell County inmate records page separates sheriff records, KORA requests, court records, state custody, federal custody, and immigration custody.

Jewell County Jail Population

Current rated bed capacity, current daily population, annual bookings, average length of stay, demographic split, and pretrial-versus-sentenced split were not found in current official Jewell County sources. Jewell County Jail Visits

No official Jewell County Jail visitation schedule, visitor ID rule, dress code, video vendor, attorney visit rule, holiday schedule, or lockdown update page was located online. The right approach is to verify custody first, then call the sheriff before travel. Ask whether visits are currently offered, whether they are in person or remote, what ID is required, whether minors may visit, what property is barred, and whether visits can change because of staffing or jail operations.

Jewell County Jail Bond

No official Jewell County online bond payment portal, bond desk schedule, accepted-payment list, or bond fee chart was located. Call the jail before trying to post money. Ask for the exact bond amount, bond type, payee, accepted payment, office location, hours, case or booking number, and whether any hold prevents release after bond is posted. If the jail directs the question to court, call the clerk at 785-378-4030.

Bond QuestionWhy It Matters
Is bond set?A person may be waiting for first appearance, a judge order, or updated paperwork.
What type of bond is allowed?Cash, surety, PR, or no-bond status changes what a family member can do.
Is there an outside hold?Another agency hold can block release after local bond is paid.
Where is payment accepted? No online Jewell County bond portal was found.

Jewell County Jail KORA

A written Kansas Open Records Act request is the backup route for public Jewell County Jail records when phone staff cannot release details. Ask for the jail calendar or roster entry, booking date, charge or hold reason, bond, arresting agency, release date if any, and any publicly releasable booking photo. Kansas law allows written request procedures and actual-cost fees, and agencies must act by the end of the third business day after receiving a request.

Keep the request narrow. Include the person's full name, date of birth if known, approximate arrest or booking date, and the specific records sought. A booking photo may be reviewed differently than a jail calendar entry because Kansas Attorney General guidance says mugshots and standard arrest reports may be discretionarily closed under K.S.A. 45-221(a) or related criminal-investigation grounds.

Jewell County Jail Transfers

Jewell County Jail is not the correct final search tool for every person arrested in the county. A sentenced felony prisoner moves into the Kansas Department of Corrections system and is searched through KASPER after state processing. A federal prisoner is searched through BOP. An immigration detainee is searched through ICE ODLS. VINELink is a custody notification tool when available, but it does not replace direct sheriff confirmation for local bond or release questions.

Jewell County Jail History

Historic jail references can confuse current custody searches. The Kansas Historic Resources Inventory material says the old Jewell County jail and sheriff residence served until 1978 and was later acquired by the Jewell County Historical Society in 1982. That old jail is not the active source for current inmate lookup, bond, visitation, or booking records.

The current courthouse context is separate. National Register material for the Jewell County Courthouse describes a WPA-era courthouse built in 1936 and 1937 and notes that after the original jail at Center and Madison closed, county commissioners built a one-story limestone addition around 1982 to house the county jail. Current custody questions still go to the sheriff's office at the North Commercial law-enforcement address.

Note: Confirm custody and visit rules with Jewell County Jail before traveling to Mankato or sending money.
